The Laurels of Bedford is very pleased that many surgeons and attending physicians follow their patients at our facility.
If your physician does not have admitting privileges, our Medical Director or other attending physician will be happy to oversee your care while you are staying with us. If you have any questions regarding your physician coverage, please don't hesitate to contact us at (269) 968-2296. We can assist you to ensure that you will have physician coverage.
The Laurels of Bedford is now in partnership with Bronson Healthcare and collaborates together with Dr. Ahed Zayzafoon, MD and Helen Puhalj, PA-C to meet the needs of each of our guests.

Anthony B. Janas, MD
Medical Director
Dr. Anthony B. Janas is a graduate of the Iberoamericana University in Dominican Republic. He completed his residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He is new to the area. His work experience includes Historic Northside Family Practice. He looks forward to expanding his patient base in Battle Creek and the surrounding areas. He is fluent in Spanish.
Raakesh Bhan, MD
Attending Physician
Dr. Raakesh Bhan, MD is board certified in Internal Medicine. He graduated from Guru Nanak Dev University and completed medical residency at Edgewater Hospital, and Michael Reese Hospital Medical Center. Dr Bhan specializing in the field of Pulmonary Critical Care, Dr. Bhan is prepared to diagnose and treat patients suffering from life-threatening pulmonary disorders and diseases such as emphysema, pneumonia, lung cancer and COPD, among others. Dr. Bhan will attempt to improve the overall quality of life for patients suffering from these chronic diseases through personalized treatment plans.
Ahed Zayzafoon, MD
Attending Physician
Ahed Zayzafoon, MD is a hospitalists and specializes in Internal Medicine – Geriatric. He attended medical school at Damascus University in Damascus Syria. He completed his residency at Westlake Hospital; Damascus University in Damascus, Syria.
Helen Puhalj, PA-C
Physician's Assistant
Helen Puhalj, PA-C received her associates degree in the physician assistant program at Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland, Ohio; Bachelor’s degree at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio. She also has certification in Gerontology and End of Life Care. Helen states "My job is to really know the patient and their family – that’s why patient and family centered care is so important to me. I make sure to explain the medical problems and take time to have everyone involved in all decisions."
